Lamar University Beaumont. Texas B.S. Health and Physical Education Minor: History

Mr. David Guidry

Hi, my name is David Guidry and I teach Civics and United States History at Vinton High School. I am married to Pamela Updike Guidry who is a retired school secretary and we have two sons, Andrew who is a music teacher at Bridge City Elementary School and Matthew who is a technology network specialist at Lamar State College in Orange. I am a graduate of Bridge City High School and Lamar University in Beaumont. I taught and coached in Texas for 29 years before making the move to Vinton High School in 2008. I am beginning my 44th year of teaching and my 15th year at Vinton High School. My favorite hobbies are historical research with a special emphasis on the history of Supreme Court decisions and opinions. I recently had the honor and privilege of teaching an adult class on the United States Constitution for a local political group for over ten years which greatly enhanced my research. When I am not doing historical research, I do spend a lot of time fishing in the local waterways and Toledo Bend Lake. My two favorite quotes that have inspired my teaching career are: "Beware of False Knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance" by George Bernard Shaw and "None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free" by Johann Goathe. It is my goal to make every student an independent and critical thinker who can discover knowledge on their own by using their God-Given talents of reason and to formulate their own philosophies of success.
