Welcome Back Students

I am looking forward to this school year with excitement as we come back to the classroom where new knowledge is discovered and experienced for the first time. We will dedicate ourselves to “flattening the learning curve” and becoming the most well educated and informed student body in the great State of Louisiana. This year will mark the first year that we will have all of our Juniors at Vinton High School enrolled in U.S. History as we prepare to take the U.S. History LEAP TEST in the spring. Our instructional strategies and activities will be geared toward preparing you to be successful on the U.S. History LEAP Test as it our goal to perform at a high level on that very important test. It is my hope that you will work extremely hard in your preparations and that each of you will represent Vinton High School with a great sense of pride, honor and achievement. There are two very important items that need to be addressed immediately which are to establish a line of effective communication between me, you and your parents/guardians through email and our new instructional learning platform known as CANVAS. This new platform will be fully utilized to enhance our curriculum and educational experience in many different ways. The two main lines of communication will be my Calcasieu Parish email and the Announcement Page in Canvas. My school email is david.guidry@cpsb.org which will be checked by me on a regular basis so that I can respond in a timely manner to any questions you or your parents/guardians may have about our class. I will also be posting regular Announcements through Canvas which will be emailed to you. It is important that you check your email everyday several times a day to ensure that you are aware of any new information that may be delivered.  I have been working this summer to build the course content in the new CANVAS platform and will be adding new modules, pages and files as we go. We will be submitting MOST of our work, tests and assignments through CANVAS to eliminate the handling of papers. Again, I look forward to a very successful and productive school year and hope that you will bring a “can do” attitude with you to Vinton High School in August. Go Lions!
