What is the American College Test (ACT)?

The American College Test (ACT) is one of the required entrance exam for many colleges and universities. It is also a requirement for students seeking financial aid through TOPS.

How do I prepare for the ACT?

There are multiple test prep websites that offer study guides and materials for the ACT. CPSB also purchased the program ACT MasteryPrep for all students enrolled in the 2021-2022 school year. To access ACT MasterPrep, follow the following steps:

  1. Go to https://launchpad.classlink.com/cpsb
  2. "Launch" your CPSB LaunchPad
  3. Find the white and yellow icon that says "MasteryPrep" and click on it
  4. Begin working on lessons in "ACT Study Hall"

When should I take the ACT?

All juniors will take the ACT at Vinton High School in March. It is encouraged that students take the ACT multiple times before their senior year.

If you are planning to take dual enrollment classes your junior and senior year, you must take the ACT or PreACT as a sophomore. The earlier your sophomore year the better as many students need to take the test multiple times in order to achieve the scores needed to be accepted into the program. 

How do I register for the ACT?

Students will register for the ACT through MyACT. This can be accessed at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/register-for-the-act.html

*Registration for the March test given at Vinton High School will be completed at school. 

Where do I send my ACT score?

Students can send their scores to up to 4 different schools. Here are a few of the most popular 2- and 4-year college School Codes in Louisiana and Texas. 

*If you are applying for TOPS, you must send your score to the Louisiana Office of Student Finanical Assistance (LOSFA) code 1595.
